Become the owner of your very own cask of Single Malt Scotch Whisky distilled at The Borders Distillery in Hawick – the first Scotch Whisky distillery in the Scottish Borders since 1837.
The distillery’s Directors have released 1,837 whisky casks for private sale at a price of £1,995 per cask.
Filled on a date of the owner’s choosing, in a cask type selected from a range of options, each individually numbered cask is stored under bond and bottled when the owner wishes.
Is there a particular date on which you would like to fill your cask? Perhaps you want to mark a special occasion – a birthday or anniversary? Let us know, with as much notice as possible.
Once filled, your cask will be warehoused by The Borders Distillery. The first ten years of warehousing and insurance are included in the purchase price.
1837® owners are granted access to a specially-commissioned app, allowing you to monitor the development of your cask, tracking the flavour profile as your spirit slowly matures.
We recommend bottling after at least 8 years of maturation, although you may choose to leave your Whisky to mature for longer.
When the time is right, we will arrange bottling for you. A selection of bottles and labelling options are included in the purchase price.
The final number of bottles will vary from cask to cask, and by bottling strength, but a reasonable estimate at 8 years old and 46% ABV might be 280-300 70cl bottles.
Upon bottling, and prior to release from bond, the cask owner will be liable for Duty and VAT according to the rates and laws in place at date of bottling.
In June 2020, the Scotch Whisky Association developed independent advice and information for people considering the purchase of a cask of Scotch Whisky. We recommend anyone considering such a purchase read the SWA’s advice here.
