Mother’s Day Gin Gifts: Top Picks from The Borders Distillery

Mother’s Day is just around the corner, so we’ve put together some gift ideas to help you out. And this year, gin is at the top of our list!

And not any old gin. Our Kerr’s Gin and Kerr’s Navy Strength Gin is made differently to most other gins – it’s lighter and fresher and every drop is made from Scottish Borders barley. Trust us, this could be about to become your mum’s new favourite!

So, here’s a run-down of our best Mother’s Day gin gifts. And one thing we can guarantee – they’ll all last far longer than a bunch of flowers!

Kerr’s Gin – £33

Kerr’s Gin is crafted in a different way to most other gins. We use what’s known as a Carterhead Still to gently steam the carefully selected botanicals (including, angelica root, coriander seeds, cassia bark and lemon peel) to coax out the essential oils and flavours.

The reason? This method produces a fresher, lighter and more delicate gin but with a full rounded flavour– and we believe you really can taste the difference.

Made using only Scottish Borders barley sourced from within a 35-mile radius of our home, our Kerr’s Gin is inspired by the continuing legacy of plant hunter and botanist William Kerr, who was born here in Hawick in 1779.

Kerr’s Navy Strength Gin – £50

Kerr’s Navy Strength Gin is a limited-edition run of our original Kerr’s Gin.

One glimpse of its vivid blue bottle tells you there is something different about this gin.

Packed with the same carefully selected botanicals but bottled at 57.1% ABV, our Kerr’s Navy Strength Gin masters the balance between intensity and smoothness. Ideal for gin-based cocktails or a simple G&T – poured over ice and mixed with tonic and a slice of orange.

We’ve used state-of-the-art printing technology to make this our first completely paperless bottle, with just 2,022 bottles released for sale.

Kerr’s Gin Combo Box – £75

The Kerr’s Gin Combo Box offers up the perfect pairing for any gin-lover.

Bringing together our original Kerr’s Borders Gin with our limited-edition Navy Strength bottle, we have packaged up a ready-made gift for those who want to fully experience our Scottish Borders gin this Mother’s Day.

The kit comes with a full-size bottle (70cl) of Kerr’s Gin, an engraved The Borders Distillery cocktail shaker, a jigger, a spoon and two cans of Fever-tree Mediterranean tonic water.

The Borders Distillery Tour – From £20

If experiences and making memories are something she loves, why not book a tour with us and she can discover the true spirit of the Borders region at our award-winning distillery, rated a 5* VisitScotland attraction, with a 5* rating on Tripadvisor too!

The tour will be guided by one of our expert distillers who will walk through the production process, including what we do to give our spirits their unique quality and taste. There will be plenty of opportunity to take photos (in fact, we encourage it – the natural light let in by our huge glass ceiling ensures the distillery remains ‘photogenic’ at all times) and at the end of the tour, there’s a chance to sample our spirit in the distillery bar.
