New Make Spirit, and so much more...

Each day in production, we create new make spirit – a malty, fruity liquid which comes off our spirit stills at 71.7%.

The majority of this is going into oak casks, where it will remain as it matures into our Single Malt Scotch Whisky. But that’s not all that we do with it – we also use it as the base spirit to create William Kerr’s Borders Gin, crafted entirely onsite from malted Borders barley.

We also have our own whiskies that we have created by blending together a range of products from different distilleries.

William Kerr’s Borders Gin

William Kerr is one of Scotland’s most renowned plant hunters whose tireless work contributed 238 new plants to the UK.

Borders Gin celebrates William Kerr’s great achievements and his contribution to botany.

It pays tribute to the wealth of fascinating botanicals from near and far, some of which are at the heart of this spirit.

Using our own original spirit, this 43% ABV gin explores the art of distillation using our specially commissioned Carter Head still, to capture the essence of a delicate balance of botanicals from near and far.

Clan Fraser Reserve

Clan Fraser Reserve Blended Scotch Whisky is a unique blend of the finest grain and malt whiskies from the heart of Scotland.

This delightful blend was inspired by our overall vision for our company established in the Scottish Borders – the same area that the Frasers (Fraisiers – Stawberry pickers) came to from Anjou, France over 900 years ago.

It is a blend of finest grain and several malt whiskies to celebrate the ingenuity, determination and pioneering spirit of the Fraser Clan. Honey and buttery on the nose with hints of cinnamon and vanilla. With its notes of raisins and figs, it is ever so slightly sweet and deliciously smooth with a rounded finish.

This is an exquisite whisky reflecting the Spirit of the Borders and invoking a sense of warmth and belonging in the hearts of all those who enjoy it.

The Art of Blending

The aim of the blender is first to produce a whisky of a definite and recognisable character.

It is of the greatest importance that the blend should never vary from this standard, which customers all over the world will have come to expect. The second aim is, therefore, to achieve consistency.

The blender must also decide when the different single whiskies are ready to be used in the blend. They are then brought from the warehouse where they have been maturing to the blending house, where they are mixed together in a blending vat. This union of whiskies is usually returned to cask and left to ‘marry’ for a period of months before bottling. Some companies prefer to vat their Malts and Grains separately and only bring the two together before bottling. In the case of Blended Malts the same process will apply, with the difference being that it will be 100% malt Scotch.
